PSG Women wins the French Cup

For Laure Boulleau’s last game, the Parisians won the French Cup against Olympique Lyonnais. The result of hard work, after a crazy evening, interrupted by the storm in particular.

The Red and Blue opened the scoring with a beauty from Katoto, who stunned Amandine Henry with a sombrero before adjusting the goalkeeper with a limpid left-foot shot (1-0, 16′). The Lyonnaises try to react but face a solid Parisian defence.

If the Parisians contain the Lyonnaises, they also seek to make the break. Shortly after the half hour of play, Paredes takes a corner for Perisset’s header, but misses the net (34′).

Rare fact, in the second half, the game is interrupted because of a thunder storm, a flood falls on the Meinau and the game is stopped (59′). The game finally resumes after about an hour of waiting. The rain continues to fall but the Parisians do not let themselves be distracted. Delie tries a long shot, hoping to take advantage of the wet grass, but the ball misses the net (65′).

The Red and Blue are holding up and thus win the Coupe de France. A crazy party that ends in beauty!

The President of Paris Saint-Germain congratulated the women’s team coached by Bernard Mendy:

“I feel a very strong sense of pride as our women’s team wins its first title since joining the club. These are long efforts that now find their reward. The girls have delivered a huge game of courage against Lyon, which is as everyone knows the best team in Europe in recent years. This title shows us that we are on a good path to compete with all the teams on the national and European levels. It is our ambition, we reaffirm it tonight more than ever.
After the game, I had the pleasure of congratulating Bernard Mendy, who brought to this team all his knowledge of football and his love of Paris Saint-Germain. Congratulations to the leaders of the women’s section, the staff and our players who, in very difficult weather conditions, were heroic tonight in Strasbourg for the greatest pleasure of our fans! Finally, on this historic day for our women’s team, I salute the departure of Laure Boulleau, an admirable player who honours for many years the colours of Paris Saint-Germain and French women’s football.”
