WN Opinion – PSG Transfer Window By @psgangus

PSG World Nation opens this page to supporters around the world to share with us their opinion / feelings about Paris Saint Germain. Today, our friend @psgangus talks about the Winter transfer window:

Every PSG fan would agree that the necessity in January is to bring in the team at least one midfielder. Unfortunately, the situation towards the FFP is not fixed yet, waiting for a decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport, so PSG is still under serious financial pressure. Paris Saint Germain have been linked to many players since the start of December. I’ve picked out the ones whose seem the most serious and see how reliable each rumour is.

The first and most prominent link is Frenkie De Jong from Ajax, De Jong would cost roughly 75 million Euros which is expensive, but this is what you have to pay for a quality player, especially in midfield. The information came first from De Telegraaf, a serious Netherland newspaper. Marca is another one, which makes me question the legitimacy of the rumor as they have clear and obvious ties with Javier Tebas; the current president of La Liga. Tebas has been against PSG ever since PSG stunned the football world by buying Neymar from FC Barcelona for 222 million Euros. Tebas could be using Marca to sway UEFA’s FFP verdict, or there could be some truth behind these rumors.

A second important link is Julian Weigl from Borrussia Dortmund. Weigl would cost 50 million Euros as the German outfit are unwilling to sell considering their strong chase for the Bundesliga title. But every club have their price and if PSG can bring the funds together Weigl should be the priority if they fail to land De Jong.

The next two biggest links are Paredes and Samassekou from Zenit and RB Salzburg respectively. Paredes has a price tag of around 40 million Euros but it seems that Zenit are unwilling to sell the 24 year old. The player himself has said that he wants a move to Boca Juniors: “The possibilities of going back are small as Zenit don’t want to sell me.” Lately, Paredes has been linked to Chelsea. Diadie Samassekou is a 22 year old defensive midfielder for RB Salzburg, he would cost the Parisians roughly 30 million Euros which could be a steal in the current market.

Doucouré from Watford is another player linked to PSG. The player has said on record that he’d be willing to leave Watford but the English club has slapped a €50m price tag on his head making the transfer slightly harder to pull off.

The final link is Allan from Napoli. The 27 year old has had an €90 million price tag put on him by his club which puts us out of reach. I personally believe that if we had this money we should not spend it on a 27 year old and rather we spent it on De Jong.

Overall, PSG need to sign a midfielder this January whatever the cost, If we have the money, I suggest we splash out for De Jong (and possibly De Ligt too) but if we don’t, Diadie Samassekou would be a solid option and another fresh face which is something our squad desperately needs.
